The Slick IM Client for Symbian!

Yepp! That is the exact name of this symbian application through which you will be connected with your online or offline friends through MSN messenger or AOL, ICQ and Yahoo messenger or any other messenger for that fact. Slick is an “all in one” social messenger with rich features which can save you money and can be quite exciting. Not only that, through the new Slick IM client you will be able to group talk or conference talk on the go straight from your mobile using internet data connectivity and nothing else. The wonders of Nokia mobile phones is certainly its user friendly graphical user interface (or GUI) and the ability of its engine to efficiently use the operating system, mainly the open source Symbian OS. This particular messenger have two things which it seems to keep in mind when it was built for the first time, ease of use and rich features.

Most of the times when you mix those two you get neither of them. Either you end up with a memory eating monster or you end up with a simple IM client which only lets you talk through MSN or Yahoo! which really is not utilizing the capability of a Nokia smartphone like the high end devices from S60 N-Series or E-Series. Nokia N95 was a total success for Nokia but one thing that even that fantastic pda like handset or mobile phone lacked was the ability of it to communicate through different external protocols. Slick IM client deminishes that entirely and lets you use your smartphones to the fullest. So tell me something everyone, how do you Qeep? Lol. No no it sure is not a typo and actually today I am going to present you one of the finest and most feature packed application for mobile devices. For those who already have heard it all before, yes today I am featuring the social instant messenger called ‘Qeep’ (..love the name cause it sure is quite catchy!). For those who haven’t heard or used Qeep ever, well you better start using it right now or be left behind. So what exactly does Qeep offer which other similar, IM based application does not right? It is the same question I asked to myself when I heard about Qeep for the first time ever. Firstly, like many other IM based applications, Qeep is free! Like many other IM based mobile applications Qeep offers sending QMS (SMS of course lol) messages free! And like many other software, Qeep is lightweight and easy on the bills. There is a big plausible ‘but’ with Qeep though, Qeep lets you do a whole lot more than just IM-ing or stuff like that.

Qeep offers photo blogging, live chatting and the most terrific part of Qeep is “Multiplayer Gaming” on your smartphones! How much flash memory any application like this requires depends phone to phone but generally, they are all heavyweight champions and almost all of them immediately crashes when you are typing super fast like I do with the T9 dictionary on. Qeep however is super lightweight compared to all those other symbian or java based applications, Qeep consumes almost only half the memory compared to any other similar application if not any less so that’s a huge plus for any IM applications! I have been using it since last week to test it out and honestly I had doubts myself about the features and the size overall, but to my amazement, I must say that Qeep is really Qeeping me on my toes, but relaxed cause it hasn’t crashed even once. Can you imagine just how much flash memory does any other application like this consumes without even offering all these?  Since I am a blogger I really dig the fact that it offers photo blogging on the go, no other application have that feature and honestly speaking I always had to shut off my IM application before opening up Opera Mobile to post in the blog (not this blog though). But with that application I already can actually launch and browse the web at the same time with Opera, though I actually don’t need to cause I can blog through the Qeep interface but I just had to test it out myself. I usually like lightweight IMs which just serves my purpose and keeps my bill under control, so I never was a fan of resource hoggers kinda applications (not naming any though, I am sure you all can guess) and needed a Java based platform which I can actually keep open and running in the background when I am browsing the web. I also love the fact that you can send SMS on the go without actually involving your network SMS gateway. So the cost of SMS is really zero, you will be charged by your operator though for the GPRS, WAP, EDGE, 3G, UMTS HSDPA or whatever else is applicable in your case.

One of the most interesting features of Qeep is that you can actually play multiplayer games online with your friends. All the games are really simple but quite engaging to say the very least. And since you will be playing with or against your friends and foes, you can be pretty sure that it will be that damn hard to win which really makes it much more fun! I hate easy mobile games, I hate complicated but I absolutely love competitive games and almost all the games will test your skills, especially your Brain Department.You can chat and blog and play online mulitplayer mobile games and open Opera Mobile in the background and receive calls, send and receive sms all at once!! Multitasking? You bet it is with the Qeep factor lol!!! Anyway you do have to sign up for Qeep on their official website located at Qeep.net before you can actually sign in and start to make friends, registration is definitely free my friends. The community is really buzzing all the time and as much as I know they have more than 200,000 registered Qeepers (including me) who will surely be Qeeping you busy with Qeep! (Damn this word is catchy!). Within all my excitement, I now realize I have forgot to mention that with Qeep you can send “Qool Qounds” …err I meant ‘cool sounds’ lol. They are all really funny sounds, like the audio versions of the famous MSN “wink”. They will play on your friends handset if they kept the sound option activated as well.

Anyway, enough Qeeping from me for one day! May you all have an awesome time just like I am having with Qeep and do add me there as a friend if you can. As a businessman there is nothing more irritating than receiving an unnecessary call when you are busy as hell with work. You know that if you reject the call then the caller will call you again and if you answer it then you will be kicked out of the meeting or at least everyone else will think ‘Does he/she ever concentrate on the most important discussions….. sighs… ‘. Well my dear friends of Nokia symbian themes, the problem is now solved with the next business focused set of applications I am going to present you today! As the title suggests it is called Webgate Advanced Call Manager, but wait I am also going to include Webgate Easy Reject, Webgate Voice Inbox and Webgate Advanced Device Lock Professional with it so that you do not miss out of anything!

Previously I also published Ultimate Portable Voice Call Recorder, which actually has a function similar to the Webgate Voice Inbox. However, it seems that the market demand is more for Voice Inbox. It is completely upto you and you alone that which one’s interface you like better. In the past I also publised the Private One SMS and Call Manager for 3rd edition phones which I personally use, so do give it a go to see how it compares to Webgate Call manager. They are both similar and efficient to say the least.

Let us look at the features of these applications at a quick glance, shall we?

Webgate Advanced Call Manager actually can reject or accept calls from a pre defined set of numbers which you can directly choose from the contacts via Black List or simply input it manually. You can additionally delete or hide sms from those numbers if you want to. Not only that, with advanced call manager you have the option to send a predefined set of SMS when you reject calls automatically, thus saving you quite a bit of trouble when you are really busy or want to avoid incoming calls from someone specific. This application is quite lightweight and runs in the background without crashing itself or without any slowing down your symbian operating system even one bit. Beside all these you can define it to accept calls only from contacts, or only from unknown numbers. The “hide call details and SMS” option actually works like the famous MUM SMS application for 2nd edition phones like the N70 or 6681.

Now let us take a look at the best selling Webgate Advanced Device Locks Professional. This one is a utility based software for you smartphones and you can actually make you important files very secure, thus making sure that in case you lost your handhelds or it is somehow stolen, important details like your Bank account number or credit card numbers cannot be exposed. Or, if you use a push based Mobile E-Mail application then you can restrict who can access it by simply setting a password to open up the application. This will make sure that no one gets access to what no one should get access to! Not only that, you have the option to delete data remotely through this application, thus making sure that no personal contact details are being exposed to the thief through your phone. This is really very useful in terms of security of your data in the memory card or the phone memory of your cell phone. If the perpetrator decides to change the SIM card then you can set it up so that it secretly SMS you that new number of your stolen phone’s GSM SIM card and you can submit the details to the proper authority like the police immediately and proper actions can be taken.

With Webgate Easy Reject you can actually reject calls and SMS only, thus it is very much useful if you use another dedicated software or application for the file security of your phone. It simply rejects the call of a Black List number or accept the calls only from White List numbers. Lightweight and straight to the point, this is an application that can also reject SMS, incoming calls and video calls on the go! Basically, if you want someone to keep away from you and your cell phone then this application is the one, period!

Last but not the least is the Webgate Voice Inbox application. What this superb application does is build a virtual inbox inside your phone so that you do not have to call your voice mail box everytime someone calls you and leaves a voice message. But you will ask me now that aren’t the voice messages stored in the network carrier’s router or base station? No they are not with this application. What this application does is record the calls after a few rings (which you can decide how long it will be) automatically and tells the caller with the IVR function to leave a message. It doesn’t let the call get forwarded to the voice mailbox in other words and pulls the playback from your memory card directly thus saving you loads of otherwise incurring phone bills. That’s not all, just like a window pops up when you have a new sms in your phone, a window pops up here too telling you that you have a new voice message! How cool is that?

One of the worst thing of both S60 and S40 smartphones is the fact that when you enter its default gallery menu it takes a hell lot of time to load.
